The Art Room....Let's Blog!

One idea that I have to use this blog for is to showcase student artwork and the art room itself for my middle school students in grades 5-8.  Many things go on in the art room.  Yes, we make art and NO, we do not just COLOR!! We CREATE and INNOVATE!!  We EXPRESS our FEELINGS and our IDEAS.  This can be a place for my students, their parents/guardians and my community to come to when they want to write, see and read about what is happening in the H.M.S art room. This is a great place to advocate my program, especially because too often the ARTS get overlooked.  I can, as the H.M.S. art teacher, keep students, teachers, administrators, parents/guardians and the community updated when it comes to lessons and information that happens in the art room. The students can even communicate and discuss topics assigned in various lessons through the 30 day rotations that they have art class. Come back soon to see what is going on with the blog and the H.M.S. art students work.

  1. I love this idea! A friend of mine is an art teacher at a small district high school and while she submits many of her student's work to the local ESD art shows every year, not a lot of people within the community realize how talented and successful the students are. You could also use the blog to inform your students of any upcoming shows that are in the area and use it as a way to motivate and encourage them to create something to enter.

    1. Thanks for the ideas, Cynthia. Encouraging art making is very important and critical because at the middle school level students always say "I can't" or they feel like their work is not good enough. In the end all it takes is practice, practice and more practice just like most things in life.

  2. Hi Amanda,
This art blog is an excellent way for the students to also feel a sense of pride for their work and encourage them to do the best they can since, it will be published on the blog. One challenge you may face is students learning how to post and publish their artwork such as taking a picture of the work and uploading it. One way to over come this is have the first few days a general lesson on how to do this task. You may also want to set certain guidelines on what to post. At the end of the 30 days you could have a virtual art show that the students and parents can view too. You can see if any local artists could post to the blog too and show some of their own personal work. Your page looks awesome!!!
Here is a nice art blog that has some cool ideas you may like.

  3. Thanks for your ideas! I love the idea of students being able to publish their art through the blog. Guidelines are a must especially since we all know kids can come up with some crazy ideas! Love the idea of a virtual show also. And another great idea by you to mention about the local artists! It would be a great source for my students to see that others make art on a daily basis. Thanks for the recommendations!

  4. Hello Amanda,
Your idea to use the blog to showcase student artwork is magnificent. I even like the way you vary the colors and font size of your letters in the blog. I can tell you have a way with art! I was surfing the web and came across this website on using blogs to show artwork. http://www.slideshare.net/tagartteacher/blogging-in-the-art-classroom. I think you might find this interesting. Thanks for sharing your great ideas!
